In het eerste deel van dit tweeluik (Beckers, 2023) beschreef ik hoe de ouders van zorg mijdende en sociaal geïsoleerde jongvolwassenen in een impasse terechtkomen die grote lijdensdruk met zich meebrengt. Ik introduceerde het  systeemtheoretische concept ‘interpersoonlijke invariatie’, een begrip dat verwijst naar een chronische onbeweeglijkheid die zowel de ouder-kindrelatie als de relatie tussenouders en hun omgeving kenmerkt.

In dit tweede deel werk ik richtlijnen uit voor een praktijk die de zoektocht van ouders naar een leefbare situatie een volwaardig podium biedt. Ik bespreek hoe ik samen met ouders manoeuvreer doorheen de verschillende fases van het therapeutische proces. Voor elke fase licht ik doelen en interventies toe en illustreer ik de toepassing daarvan via een centrale casus. Bijzondere aandacht
gaat naar specifieke therapeutische attitudes die tijdens het traject zorgen voor houvast.
